UScellular, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia Kick off First Hispanic Heritage Month Art Contest in Roanoke Area
ROANOKE, Va. (Sept. 14, 2023) – September 15 marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, and in honor of the occasion, UScellular and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia have announced the kickoff of their first Hispanic Heritage Month Art Contest.
Boys & Girls Club members are encouraged to create original pieces of artwork in recognition of influential Hispanic STEM icons, including historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators.
A maximum of 10 finalists from Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia will be chosen by Club representatives and local UScellular leaders based on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impression. Of those 10, three winners will be determined by online public voting.
Anyone 18 and older are invited to vote for their favorite art online September 15 until September 22.
“We are thrilled to partner once again with Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and honor the talented youth in our community,” said Nakeita Stewart, director of sales and operations for UScellular in the Mid-Atlantic. “As we take the opportunity to highlight the contributions that Hispanic people have made to STEM, we’re always so impressed by the imaginative, inspirational and insightful artwork that Club members create for this beloved contest.”
After voting has been completed, the top three vote-getters will receive gift cards in the amounts of $250 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third. The contest is sponsored by the Latino Network Association (LAN), UScellular’s associate resource group that is dedicated to creating an environment that attracts, develops and retains associates of Latin descent.
