Re Bella Ross’ essay “Understanding the world through art is our most human trait. It shouldn’t be made by AI.” (June 16): Artificial intelligence has been making improvements in recent years and has now become available to everyone. It has never been easier to create a piece of art, a song or an essay in the blink of an eye. But the truth about AI art is that it’s based on a database of real art made by real people. AI art isn’t art, it’s theft.
As an artist myself, I feel that art is a way to share your experiences with others. But AI art removes humanity, leaving an empty imitation of the real thing. The difference between AI art and real art is like an old Gothic church, expertly crafted with high spires, compared to a cement building with small windows. Ross writes, “Our ability to communicate with, relate to and interpret the world around us through creativity is, arguably, our most human trait,” and I couldn’t agree more.
