The Mandalorian actor Pedro Pascal’s announcement of The Mandalorian & Grogu movie included concept art and a familiar song.
Posting to his Instagram stories, Pascal expressed his excitement about The Mandalorian & Grogu by posting Star Wars concept art crafted by Ryan Church, depicting his character Din Djarin and Grogu flying through space and emerging from a fiery crash. Accommodating the picture was Ludwig Göransson’s soundtrack song, “Hey Mando!” which was the first song featured during the series premiere of The Mandalorian in 2019.
The Mandalorian Can (And Should) Evolve Past Its Titular Hero
The Mandalorian was lightning in a bottle for Star Wars. But the series could still continue without its main hero, and maybe it should.
The Mandalorian & Grogu movie was confirmed on Jan. 9, with acclaimed producer Jon Favreau set to direct. The film will begin production this year and feature various characters from The Mandalorian Disney+ series. Favreau is also the executive producer for the movie alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said in a statement on the official Star Wars website. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Pascal has been championing the prospect of a film centered around Din Djarin and Grogu for some time. His post seemingly reassures Star Wars fans that he will fulfill his dream in The Mandalorian & Grogu despite a hectic filming schedule which includes Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated epic historical sequel, Gladiator 2, and The Last of Us Season 2. The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the first Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
What remains unclear about The Mandalorian & Grogu is whether the film is a standalone project or if it’s Season 4 of the TV series. Last February, Favreau confirmed Season 4 of The Mandalorian was written, seemingly squashing the speculation. However, it’s been heavily rumored since August 2023 that Lucasfilm was seriously considering converting Season 4 of The Mandalorian into a feature-length project.
Pedro Pascal Is Great Casting for Reed Richards, but Needs to Avoid This Trend
Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards in the MCU’s Fantastic Four would be solid casting but needs to be mindful not to accidentally fall into this trend.
The Mandalorian Season 3 was a bit of a letdown for fans of the hallowed Star Wars series, which also featured Katee Sackhoff, Carl Weathers, Brendan Wayne and Giancarlo Esposito. The third season drew a 51% audience score, easily the lowest of the show’s run. That said, it still received positive critical reviews and The Mandalorian was one of the most in-demand shows of 2023.
No release window has been confirmed as yet for The Mandalorian & Grogu. In the meantime, fans can stream The Mandalorian in its entirety on Disney+.
