Brazilian artist Jonathas de Andrade invited people experiencing homelessness in the city of Recife to participate in a series of exercises inspired by the Theater of the Oppressed.
In the 1970s, theorist and activist Augusto Boal began to use theater as a way to encourage social and political change. De Andrade’s “Olho da Rua” nods to this tradition, introducing new dynamics with the participants’ interpretation of the prompts.
