In 2007, the fashion icon Issey Miyake challenged Oki Sato to repurpose paper left over from the fabric-pleating process used for his Pleats Please line of clothing.
The “Cabbage Chair” was Sato’s response: when he cut directly into a thick roll of cast-off paper and peeled back the layers, a chair blossomed from the cylinder.
